Ply-pipe multi-layer pipe
Solar Conect, agents for Powertech Solar Ltd, advocates the use of Ply-Pipe in Underfloor Heating Systems
because it:
- is both flexible and rigid
- is supplied in coils of 100 and 200 metres
- colour-coded for different applications/properties
- can be buried in concrete, underground, in plaster etc without a sleeve or tube cover
- saves about 50% on insulation
- can be detected by simple metal detectors
- is non-corrosive and compatible with most chemicals
- is smooth on the inside and does not build up scale
- absorbs pressure shocks (hammering) in the system and does not create noise
- its aluminium layer provides a complete oxygen barrier, thereby eliminating the disadvantages of oxygen diffusion
- is lightweight – copper pipes are 3 to 4 ties heavier for the same applications and galvanized steel is 10 to 12 times heavier
- is simple to install
Also
- the flow rate (over its lifetime) is 30% greater compared to similar sized copper or steel pipes despite having the same bore, due to lack of scale build up
- its flexibility reduces the number of fittings required per installation and can be installed around girder columns, pillars and bulkheads in one continuous length
- its connectors are easy to assemble and to use
